Last week I briefly touched on the contentious subject of boys who use the ‘treat em mean, keep em keen’ tactic. Ever since mentioning it I’ve become more and more intrigued. Does it actually work? How do girls react to it? What kind of boys employ it? I know that personally it instantly annoys me and puts me off even the most knee-trembling, butterfly-making, pant-moistening boy. Game playing, in general, I am totally over.
I have a few male friends and I’ve been having small words in their shell-likes about the matter. It seems that there is a certain type of girl that this behaviour works on – fickle ones. Apparently the sort of woman who flirts from boy-to-boy, flirting with one, lip-locking with another and never making up her mind whom she likes best, will be most impressed by a man who treats her with an air of distain!
This led me to think about the differences between the people we flirt with and the importance of using a method that will make us stand out with the particular girl we are trying to impress. A quiet/shy girl who finds that boys usually overpower and intimidate her will probably react better to a more subtle approach and consistent attention. A girl who seems to attract boys the way buns attract elephants may be more drawn to the chap who sits in the corner, gives her a lingering glance, but doesn’t come over and babble on about how ‘bloody fit’ she is in a drunken stupor. Not that I need to tell you this, common sense really isn’t it? But despite the very obvious nature of this observation I believe most of us find a flirting technique that works once or twice and then just roll it out, blanket fashion, completely disregarding the personality of person we are talking to.
I’m going to undertake an experiment and make a super-douper effort to think about the type of guy I’m flirting with, changing my behaviour to fit. Fingers crossed this will produce some successful results.
Rest assured I will report back, like your very own personal Flirt –Tester to save you the bother! I may even get a clipboard, a white jacket and one of those pointy stick thingies. Well why not!
Wish me luck my flirt-loving friends. Wish me luck.
